Martyrdom of Bibi Fatimah(S.A.)
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 819, Narrated ‘Aisha:
Once Fatimah came walking and her gait resembled the gait of the Prophet . The Prophet said, “Welcome, O my daughter!” Then he made her sit on his right or on his left side, and then he told her a secret and she started weeping. I asked her, “Why are you weeping?” He again told her a secret and she started laughing. I said, “I never saw happiness so near to sadness as I saw today.” I asked her what the Prophet had told her. She said, “I would never disclose the secret of Allah’s Apostle .” When the Prophet died, I asked her about it. She replied. “The Prophet said.) ‘Every year Gabriel used to revise the Qur’an with me once only, but this year he has done so twice. I think this portends my death, and you will be the first of my family to follow me.’ So I started weeping. Then he said. ‘Don’t you like to be the Lady of all the ladies of Paradise or the Lady of all the lady believers? So I laughed for that.”
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 820, Narrated ‘Aisha:
The Prophet in his fatal illness, called his daughter Fatimah and told her a secret because of which she started weeping. Then he called her and told her another secret, and she started laughing. When I asked her about that, she replied, The Prophet told me that he would die in his fatal illness, and so I wept, but then he secretly told me that from amongst his family, I would be the first to join him, and so I laughed.”
Some of the titles given to her by her father are: Sayyeda-tun-Nisa-il-Alameen (Lady of all the women of the worlds), Khatoon-e-Jannat (Lady of Paradise), Um-me-Abeeha (Mother of her Father).
Ten days after her father left this world, her house was attacked by a group of seven men who came to arrest Hazrat Ali (A.S.)[her husband and the Prophet’s cousin] and make him bow to the then government. When Bibi Fatimah(S.A.) told them that Ali(A.S.) will not come out of the house as she had taken an oath from him not to fight, they set fire to the house. One of them kicked the burning door, behind which she was standing, on to her and pushed it until she was trapped between it and the wall behind her.
At that moment she cried out to her maid Fizzah(S.A.), “My Mohsin(the unborn fifth child of Ali and Fatimah) is dead!”
Her children and Fizzah rushed to help her as the men entered the house and started tying a rope around Ali(A.S.)’s neck. At which Fatimah(S.A.) rushed and flung her arms around her husband’s waist, crying, “Let go of Abul Hasan(Ali)!”
One of the men raised his stick and started hitting on her arm repeatedly. Another hit her in the ribs with the handle of his sword at which she let go and fell to the ground. The men then dragged Ali(A.S.) out of the house using the rope around his neck.
Fatimah was never able to raise her right hand after this.
This is the same Fatimah(S.A.) about whom the Prophet remarked:
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 57, Number 61, Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama:
Allah’s Apostle said, “Fatimah is a part of me, and he who makes her angry, makes me angry. Whoever makes me angry, makes Allah angry!”
Also in Volume 5, Merits of Fatimah Zehra(S.A.):
“Four women are most honorable above all the women in the world ever: Hazrat Asia(S.A.), Hazrat Maryam(S.A.), Hazrat Khadijah(S.A.) and Hazrat Fatimah(S.A.). Of these, the most honorable and respectable is my daughter Fatimah(S.A.)”
Hazrat Salman-e-Farsi(A.S.), companion of the Prophet(S.A.W.W.) and Ali(A.S.) narrates:
When Ali was performing the ghusl-e-mayyat(last bath) of Fatimah, I heard him scream and cry loudly. I was bewildered that such a brave warrior like him and the victor of all battles like Badar, Uhad, Khandaq and Khyber was wailing like that. Many months later, I asked him the reason and he started crying. Then he told me that Fatimah had a blood-gushing hole in her waist and three of her ribs were broken but she never told him that.
This is what the Ummah did to the Prophet’s own daughter just ten days after he left this world? No one raised a voice against this injustice bestowed upon her by those wretched men.
After the Prophet, Fatimah remarked:
“Father, after you left, so much cruelty was inflicted upon your daughter that if it had been done to a day, that day would have turned to a dark night!”
If someone deserves justice, it’s the Prophet’s own family. This was the first in line of the many events that led to the event of Karbala, the black spot on the white face of Islam.
